Pleading Gravity
Jul. 23rd, 2014 08:14 pmI'm sorry officer
I was not aware that I was speeding, I was
mired in my fear of falling
from the bungee jump bridge towards
the cold winding river below;
a chilling breeze rushed under the
collar of my shirt and made the hairs
on the back of my neck smell
like fresh pine trees
and then a shove and I tumbled into
a void, focusing my fall in a needle
towards the water to avoid twisting
and breaking
gravity ripping the world out from underneath me
layer by layer, again and again so quickly
as if I was falling out of bed
forever, finally touching the water with my
fingertips as if to say
I can grasp this, I can hold this,
this is mine, before the ropes tugged me back
and it was all in my mind, mashing the gas
pedal the whole time.
